Are you eligible for a Skilled Australian Visa?

Apart from the low crime rate and a stable economy, one of the many features that attracts potential migrants to Australia is the excellent job prospects that it presents. As a result of severe skills shortages in many of its states, there are significant employment opportunities available for skilled South Africans to work and live in Australia. Some of the areas of skills that are in high demand include IT Professionals, Engineers, Teachers, Accountants and Tradesmen (boilermakers, electrician, plumbers, etc.). Under the Australian General Skilled Migration program, applicants can use their age, language ability and qualifications to meet the basic criteria required to apply for a permanent Australian visa.

To find out if you could be eligible for a Skilled Australian Visa, ask yourself the following questions:

Are you between the ages of 18 and 50?

In order to qualify for Australian immigration, applicants must meet the specified age requirement, taking into account application processing times. If you fall outside of the age criteria, you may not be eligible for a skilled visa, however, you may still eligible for a parent or partner visa.

Do you have good English language skills?

To enter into Australia, you should have sufficient ability in the English language. For some applicants, there may be a certain IELTS (International English Language Testing System) requirement or they may have to take an OET (Occupational English Test).

Are you qualified in your nominated occupation?

When you apply for a skilled visa, you will be required to nominate a skilled occupation for which you must have gained at least a tertiary qualification, whether it be a University degree, technical diploma or some other form of trade qualification.

Are you really keen to go to Australia?

This may sound like a trivial question, but it is one that is often overlooked. Visiting Australia on holiday and living there are two entirely different things. Migrating is a big decision – so before you take the plunge, be honest with yourself about why you are considering emigrating to make sure you’re making the right move.

If you answered yes to all of the questions above – congratulations! You’re one step closer to living your dream down under. If you answered no, don’t lose hope, you could still be eligible under another visa category. Contact us today and we’ll assess your chances!
